The Toxicity Level of Flouride

The toxicity level of flouride depends on whether you are talking about the naturally occurring type or the synthetically produced type. If it is the naturally occurring type known as calcium flouride then no worries. However, toxicity of flouride in the synthetic type is very high, 85% more potent than the natural occurring one. To discover more about this, please read on.

Why is this important? Well, the toxic types of flouride are precisely what is added to public drinking water systems in some countries throughout the world to improve the quality of children`s teeth. The countries I am talking about are Australia, USA,Ireland, UK and New Zealand. Most European countries have banned this practice. Some countries add flouride to toothpaste and other oral care products instead, or as well.

Has this toxic flouride improved the quality of children`s teeth? Research suggests that there is only a minimal difference between children from flouridated areas and non flouridated areas.

The two types of flouride used are sodium flouride which is a by product from the aluminum industry and sodium silicifluoride which is a by product from the phosphate fertilizer industry. Sodium flouride taken in amounts as little as 200mg will kill a small child and 1 teaspoon will kill an adult. It makes me shudder to think about it.

Sodium Silicofluoride also contains lead, arsenic, cadmium and uranium. All highly toxic substances causing cancer, a reduced IQ in children, kidney damage, thyroid problems, chromosome damage, brain disorders, bone and joint diseases. The elderly, people with kidney disorders and diabetics are particularly susceptible to these problems. Flouride is not recommended to children under the age of 1 year.

The toxicity level of flouride added to public water supplies is 1ppm and it is there whether you want it, or not. You consume up to 2.7 ppm daily when you take into consideration the amount of fluid you consume daily, the amount in processed foods, drinks, toothpaste, psychotropic drugs (Prozac), medicines for some skin diseases, cancer and anesthetics.

If you wish to avoid the toxicity of flouride, buy flouride free mouth care products and try to eliminate processed foods and drinks. Do not think that bottled water is free of it either. Some companies even add it to their water. Besides that, bottled water is environmentally unfriendly and expensive.

The best and cheapest way is to consider purchasing a water purifier. No need to purchase the most expensive types to get a high quality, award winning product. I haven`t.
